Koivisto, AnaisTheatre

Anais Koivisto graduated from Boston University in 2005 and has been appearing to great acclaim in New York and regional theatre. A piece she co-created, Ismene’s Antigone, was recently selected for the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival. She has also acted in films.

"The play False Servant is yet another example of enormous versatility and enormous talent of the Off-Off-Broadway scene in New York. Written by the 17th century French playwright Marivaux, it is truly timeless and just as applicable today as it was three hundred years ago. Its adapted translation, written by Martin Crimp, is similar to Russian translations of Shakespeare – modern, relevant, and easily understandable.

In fact, the dialogues rival in humor and wit those of Oscar Wilde and Bernard Shaw. The tale of a girl who dresses up as a man to test her suitor is probably as old as theatre itself (and still can be very funny), but it’s the dialogue that makes it so enjoyable. The acting is great too: the stage sextet delivers on the usual spectacular level of hungry Off-Off-Broadway and miles above the usual cellophane crap of "70-Years-And-Running" Broadway shows. The cast is well selected, and everybody does a good job, especially the lead actress, Chevalier (Anais Koivisto), and the main conman, Lelio (J. T. Arbogast)."

Perlstein, AaronTech

Aaron was a Theater Tech student at SOTA and went to Humboldt State. As a freshman, he decided that he needed to understand lighting dancers better, so he took a dance class and  loved it.  He spent three years at Humboldt dancing in school productions and with a small start-up company in Arcata called Astrum. He also performed as the Snow King in a production of The Nutcracker in Eureka . Aaron studied in summer programs in Salt Lake City and here in San Francisco with LINES Ballet for two summers.

Wanting a greater challenge, Aaron left Humboldt after his junior year and went to New York to study with the Alvin Ailey School. He spent a semester with them, then took more classes at Hunter College, then studied during the summer at Jacob's Pillow, which auditioned internationally. Now wanting a paid job, he auditioned and signed with the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble (EDE) in Rochester Hills (suburban Detroit), Michigan. While there, he also danced in the Detroit Opera's production of Aida in April 2006. He moved back to San Francisco in June 2006, auditioned for ODC/Dance and was hired as one of two paid apprentices (the other, Jose Campos is also a SOTA alumnus)!

From the Voice of Dance:
One of the highlights of this 36th season will be the return of former San FranciscoBallet principal dancer Joanna Berman, dancing with ODC in Ms. Way’s Investigating Grace. Former Hubbard Street Dance Chicago company member Erin Derstine will also join the Company as Guest Artist.  We are happy to announce that Private Freeman, recently contemplating retirement, will continue dancing with the company.  This season, ODC/Dance introduces two new apprentice dancers: Aaron Perlstein and Jose Campos.
