A little background ...
"I remember encountering Ruth Asawa in a school garden at Alvarado Elementary School, and I listened to her describing how the concept of gardening for a young child was to teach about patience and the results that come from nurturing and perseverance. I use Ruth’s gardening analogy for our Foundation. We have persevered for the past 6 years, creating an organization that has grown a little, and benefited many young people."
Gail Baugh, Founding President
The Friends of SOTA Foundation was begun in 2000 at the urging of then Principal Joe Rosenblatt to create a foundation primarily to provide additional funding to SOTA, but also to create an active alumni committee. Parents Gail Baugh, Avrum Shepard, Pennie Sempell, David Perlstein, Coraetta Smith and Kitsaun King, Carlos Santana’s sister were all instrumental in getting this nonprofit support group off the ground. We thank them for their time and commitment.
